Ex-Pro design includes clamp collar, thread attaches to the camera compatible “mm” size (as stated) the clamp collar then tights up to prevent the hood twisting back loose. 

Hoods prevent light from coming into the actual lens at extreme angles causing relections inside and picture distortion. Some compacts include some degree of protection however adding a lens hood often increase the shade possible and removes problems such as sunspots and reflections etc…
